NCAA Tournament College Basketball Sweet 16 Schedule Thursday: Cornell and Washington Hope to Keep Dancing, Kentucky and Syracuse

The NCAA college basketball tournament has its Sweet 16 and by the end of Thursday night half of the Great Eight will be in place as four games are on the slate with a pair of Cinderellas and a pair of number one seeds still in action.

In perhaps the most intriguing matchup of the night the #12 Cornell Big Red will be facing the #1 Kentucky Wildcats in an East Region showdown between senior strength and freshman talent. The Big Red are led by seniors Ryan Wittman, Louis Dale, Jeff Foote and Jon Jaques and that quartet has upset Temple and Wisconsin to reach the Sweet 16. Kentucky is guided by a host of freshman talent with John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe, all of whom have made the Wildcats trip to the Sweet 16 rather easy. Tipoff is set for 9:57 p.m. ET.

The Butler Bulldogs have managed to fly under the radar thus far despite earning a #5 seed when the NCAA Tournament was announced. Butler will have their hands full of Thursday night when they face the #1 seed Syracuse Orange, a team that has wins of 23 and 24 points thus far and look unbeatable. While the Bulldogs were picked by many to fall in the opening round to UTEP they have hung tough and if they can find a way to handle the Orange defense they could make the game interesting. Tipoff is set for 7:07 p.m. ET.

Entering the NCAA Tournament the #11 Washington Huskies were one of the hottest teams in the nation and they have carried that momentum into the Sweet 16 with wins over #6 Marquette and #3 New Mexico. The Huskies have another winnable game on Thursday when they take on the #2 West Virginia Mountaineers, a team that is forced to play without starting point guard Darryl Bryant. That being said, West Virginia remains a dangerous team that has proven to be resilient all year. Tipoff is set for 7:27 p.m. ET.

The #2 Kansas State Wildcats have cruised through their first two West Region games and have been a favorite pick among many to find their way into the Final Four but they’ll face a tough #6 Xavier Musketeers team on Thursday with the same goal. Tipoff is set for 9:37 p.m. ET.
