Green Certification of the Gerald R Ford Office Building
Government Facilities follow Executive Order 13514
After months of careful improvement, the Gerald R Ford Office Building and Courthouse has earned its Green certification from the Green Business League. Located in Grand Rapid, Wisconsin, the Gerald R Ford Office Building is the latest of the certification projects of the Green Business League. Assisting in the certification process was Hope Network Services Corporation under the direction of David Bouck, a Certified Green Consultant.
What is also notable about this Green certification is the level of achievement demonstrated in the audit of the facility. The Gerald R Ford Office Building earned more than 500 points which is the titanium level of Green certification. This was not an overnight success story, however. Green certification using the GBL Green Points system is a holistic assessment of the many areas of environmental compliance. This includes indoor air quality, energy and carbon emission reduction, improved lighting systems, water reductions strategies, and better waste management.
Other additional credits were earned for the xeriscaping factors that reduced water, fertilization, and pesticide application on the landscaping part of the property. All these improvements bring cost savings to the facility and creates a more positive impact on the community at large.
The Green Business League program is unique because it requires verification of all improvements by a live audit. GBL disputes the false offerings of online services boasting of Green certifications where no true audit exists. Each facility is allowed to take its own route to certification because the Green Points system covers nearly every environmental improvement, and when the business reaches the prescribed point level, it receives a Green certification that is "Earned, and not Bought."
It should be noted that President Obama signed Executive Order 13514 late in 2009, which requires many of the improvements made by the Gerald R Ford Office Building. The expectation is that these facilities will set an example of strong leadership for environmental compliance. It seems certain that similar mandates will eventually pass along to businesses in every community. By working with a Certified Green Consultant, any business can improve its operation, reduce costs, and contribute to a better world as well.
The Green Business League offers the only audited certification for Green business in America. There are more than 300 Certified Green Consultants nationwide, which means that most areas can easily outsource their environmental project to a professional while maintaining a normal work schedule.
The Green Business League commends the Gerald R Ford Office Building and Courthouse for its extraordinary effort as an example of Corporate Social Responsibility, and encourages other facilities to pursue environmental compliance and community leadership in this much needed world concern.
