Australia has elected a new Prime Minister from the Labor Party who will replace current Prime Minister John Howard. Howard has served nearly 12 years in office. Earlier Saturday Howard confirmed that Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd had gained a majority of seats in parliament and would be taking his place.
Rudd has promised Australians environmental changes, new work and education polices, and has assured residents that he will withdraw troops from Iraq.
“I will be a prime minister for all Australians. Let us be the generation that seizes the opportunity of today to invest in the Australia of tomorrow,” said Rudd. “That’s the mission statement we have as the next government of this country. I want to do this with all of us working together.”
