Kevin Rudd to Become New Australian Prime Minister as John Howard Concedes

Facing the reality that the Labor Party would capture enough seats in parliament to change the face of the government, John Howard conceded early Saturday morning paving the way for Kevin Rudd to become the new Prime Minister of Australia.

Despite leading the country to economic growth, Howard’s 11 ½ year run will end as Australian’s favored Rudd’s promise of policy change in the areas that included the environment and education. Rudd also promised a quick exit of Australian troops serving in Iraq.

Howard conceded after recognizing that his Liberal-National Party wouldn’t carry enough seats in the parliamentary elections as the Labor Party gained a majority of the 150 positions.

With a clear majority, the Labor Party will have the power to shape a new governmental direction for Australia.
