Joran van der Sloot to Appear Before Aruban Judge Today in Natalee Holloway Case

Joran van der Sloot, the 20-year-old man suspected of playing a role in the death of a vacationing teenager on the island of Aruba two years ago, will face an Aruban judge today.

Van der Sloot was arrested in 2005 as were Deepak Kalpoe and his brother Satish Kalpoe. The three are believed to be the last people to see Natalee Holloway alive but after being held for several days they were released due to a lack of evidence.

Last Wednesday the three were re-arrested, two years after the alleged crime. Both Deepak and Satish were in Aruba when they were arrested while Joran was arrested in the Netherlands and was transferred to Aruba on Friday.

The judge on Monday will determine if there is enough evidence against van der Sloot to continue holding him behind bars. If the judge rules in the prosecutors favor they will have another eight days to develop their case before presenting it before a judge.

Last week a judge ordered the Kalpoes to remain in prison for an additional eight days.

The three are suspected of “involvement in the voluntary manslaughter of Natalee Holloway or causing serious bodily harm to Natalee Holloway, resulting in her death.”
