Rafael Robb pleads guilty to murdering wife

Former professor Rafael Robb has plead guilty to the 2006 murder of his wife, Ellen Robb. Robb, who was once an economics professor at the University of Pennsylvania, confessed to a judge that he “just lost it” during a heated battle with his wife last Christmas.

The 57-year-old said he and Ellen got into a “tense” argument over a trip she was taking with their 13-year-old daughter Olivia. Robb said Ellen was wrapping Christmas presents while the were arguing over whether Olivia would be back from the trip in enough time to begin school.

The couple had been estranged for some time and was sleeping in separate bedrooms. Robb’s attorney said the professor feared Ellen would leave him and take their daughter.

“We started a discussion about that. The discussion was tense. We were both just anxious about it. We both got angry. At one point, Ellen pushed me…I just lost it,” Robb told the judge. Ellen was murdered in the kitchen of their Pennsylvania home with what is described as a chin-up bar.

The murder weapon has never been found. Detectives believe Robb set the murder scene up to look like a robbery. “It’s a classic heat-of-passion killing,” said District Attorney Bruce Castor.

Robb is being held without bail and faces up to 7 years in prison. His daughter is being raised by Ellen’s brother.
