McCourt Divorce Trial Heats Up

Dodgers Execs in Legal Battle

On Monday, former Los Angeles Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt and her husband Frank McCourt are expected to attend a hearing which will begin to determine who gets what after their divorce. Jamie McCourt filed for divorce in November after having been fired by her husband as the CEO of the franchise in October. Now, Jamie says she wants $1 million per month from Frank so that she can maintain her lifestyle after they split. During a deposition, Jamie said, "I request spousal support in an amount to insure that I can continue to live at the same marital standard of living that we enjoyed during our marriage." She has estimated that the couple is worth approximately $1.2 billion. Frank, who owns the Dodgers, says that Jamie shouldn't receive anything, because "I think she has ample resources to take care of herself." Further, Jamie has argued that she is the co-owner of the LA franchise, but her husband claims that a marital agreement makes him the sole owner. Some are worried that this divorce drama will negatively affect the Dodgers and the start of their upcoming season, but Frank has said that the proceedings will have "no bearing on the team whatsoever." The court has 90 days to rule, so we may not see a decision until well into the start of the season. Hopefully things will be resolved soon, at least for the sake of the team.

The LA Dodgers are a classic baseball franchise. Since the team's establishment in 1883, the Dodgers have won 21 pennants and 6 World Series titles. Even as they are in the midst of divorce drama, they will likely remain one of the most respected and formidable competitors in the MLB.
