A 23-year-old woman found guilty of starting a fire at the wedding celebration of her former husband has been sentenced to death by a Kuwaiti court.
Nasra Yussef Mohammed al-Enezi has denied the charges yet the judge found her guilty of the premeditated act that killed 57 women and children. Lawyers representing Enezi have said they will appeal the judge’s decision.
Immediately after the August blaze press reports indicated that Enezi had been seeking retribution against her former husband but she has denied any involvement in the fire.
The judge in the case found Enezi guilty of “premeditated murder and starting a fire with the intent to kill” in relation to the blaze that became one of the worst civilian disasters in Kuwait’s modern history.
All of the victims were women and children due to the traditional wedding celebration being segregated by gender.
