Broadway shows will raise their curtains Thursday night after a 19-day strike by stagehands was ended after a tentative agreement with theatre producers was reached on Wednesday evening.
The strike was centered on the number of stagehands required by producers to open a show. According to the union representing the stagehands, at least four are required for a musical or play. Producers argued that several shows did not require the hiring of four stagehands and considered it a waste of money.
Details of the tentative agreement are not known but they have been called “a good compromise” by League of American Theatres and Producers Director Charlotte St. Martin.
