Enriched Uranium Seized by Hungarian and Slovak Authorities

In a joint operation conducted by Hungarian and Slovak police three men were arrested and charged with carrying materials that could be used to create a “dirty bomb.”

The three traffickers reportedly wanted $1.6 million for the uranium-235 and uranium-238 that totaled 481.4 grammes.

At a news conference held in Bratislava, Slovak deputy police president Michal Kopcik revealed that the radioactive uranium had been in powder form, making it all the more dangerous.

The uranium was said to come from the former Soviet Union, an all too common source for traffickers.

The two Hungarians and one Ukrainian are now facing up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
