Mudslides Hit South Kona Farmland, Big Island Vacation Rentals Spared

Rain by passes Kohala Coast Properties and Mauna Lani Vacation Rentals

DestinationVillas.com reports landslides, mud and heavy rain blocked Highway 11 and damaged some farmland South of Kona and Captain Cook area on the Big Island of Hawaii. Residents of the areas said it was the worst downpour they had ever seen. Roads were closed for several hours Thurday afternoon and children remained in school until passage was safe.

The more arid areas of South, Kohala, North Kona and Waikoloa were not affected and no damage to Waikoloa Beach vacation rentals or Mauna Lani vacation homes was reported.

Forecasters are now issuing a flood watch for Ohau and Kauai, but expect much less rain to fall there.
