CKE Restaurants Inc. (NYSE: CKR) reported Wednesday that a key sales figure slipped 4.1 percent in March, citing subpar results at its Carl's Jr. restaurants, according to Associated Press.
The company, which also owns and franchises of the Hardee's fast-food chain, said that sales at stores open at least a year dropped 7.6 percent at Carl's Jr. locations due to the faltering economy in California.

The results were better at Hardee's, where that same sales measure edged up 0.5 percent for the period ended March 22.
Consolidated revenue from company-run restaurants declined 4 percent to $83.6 million. Hardee's results were nearly flat at $37.7 million.
For the year to date, sales at stores open at least a year slipped 4.2 percent, with Carl's Jr. down 5.2 percent and Hardee's off 2.8 percent.
Total revenue from company-run restaurants fell 4 percent to $164.3 million from $170.7 million. At Carl's Jr., total revenue dropped to $91.9 million from $96.1 million, while Hardee's reported its year-to-date revenue slipped to $72.4 million from $74.6 million.
CKE Restaurants had 3,141 franchised, licensed or company-operated restaurants in 42 states and in 16 countries, including 1,224 Carl's Jr. restaurants and 1,905 Hardee's restaurants at the end of fiscal 2010.
