Hiking. Climbing ropes. Exercise. Adventure. Rarely would any of those things be associated with a drug rehab program. That is, unless you’re speaking of the only facility located on a private, expansive mountain in the Berkshires: Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center.
Over twelve years ago, Mountainside set out to offer a comprehensive drug rehab program that was different from every other drug addiction treatment program. Their goal wasn’t merely to be innovative and unique for the sake of uniqueness. Desiring the highest chance of continued, successful recovery for their clients was their mission and motivation. The founders realized that the current available drug addiction treatment options were just not producing the sustained recovery rates they desired. So, through its unique offerings, including their Adventure Based Initiatives Program, Mountainside set a standard that caused the drug rehabs industry to take notice and, consequently, earned them a spot at the White House with then-Drug Czar, John Walters.
“Our Adventure Based Initiatives Program is a unique facet of our drug addiction treatment program,” states a spokesperson for Mountainside. “Within this program we offer a variety of activities from hiking to a low-ropes course to a Native American Sweat Lodge experience. We know that exercise reduces stress and nothing promotes recovery like plain, old-fashioned fun! This program also offers individuals a therapeutic challenge as many of the behaviors, thoughts and feelings that are evoked within the Adventure Based Program can be expected to re-occur during a person’s life. It gives an individual a safe place to explore some of those thoughts, feelings and behaviors and identify issues that can affect their recovery. After they leave our program, individuals are able to reflect back on those experiences and integrate some of the techniques they learned throughout this program into their journey to recovery.”
For nearly two decades, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center has led the way in offering individualized alcohol and drug addiction treatment programs. Mountainside’s licensed and certified counselors, social workers and treatment team strive to provide quality, compassionate care to each individual in a tranquil, peaceful environment conducive to optimal recovery.
In addition to its licensed and certified counselors and social workers, Mountainside provides medical services through an on-staff Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse with specializations in drug addiction and alcohol treatment. Psychiatric services are also available to clients in need.
