Ford Sales Gain 40 Percent

Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

Ford Motor Co. (F) sales flew with the introduction of a solid new-car lineup in March. The automaker reported the sale of 183,783 cars and trucks last month, a nearly 40 percent rise from this time last year.

Sales of popular models like the brand’s Fusion and Focus, rose 52.8 percent from this month a year ago. Their truck offerings also gained sharply, up 30.1 percent for the year. For the 17th time in the last 18 months, the automaker widened their retail market share.

The only brand not to see dramatic improvements in sales was Volvo, which is in the final throes of a sale to China-based automaker, Geely.

In February, Ford broke another record. The American based carmaker overtook their domestic rivals GM for the first time in twelve years.

Despite this GM returned to the top spot this month indicating an overall improvement in the auto industry that plummeted during the recession. The Detroit based company sold 188,546 vehicles, up from 156,380 a year ago.
