NBA Schedule Thursday April 1: Dwight Howard Facing Dirk Nowitzki in Showdown Between Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks

There are just two games on the NBA schedule today but four of the game’s biggest names will be in uniform as Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic travel to face Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks while Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers head out to take on Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets.

Orlando looks to have the number two spot in the Eastern Conference locked up with a four-game cushion over the Atlanta Hawks but the Dallas Mavericks still have work to do in the Western Conference if they want to keep their number two spot. With a ½ game lead over the Utah Jazz the Mavericks need a win on Thursday to stay ahead so they have plenty of motivation.

The Denver Nuggets have slipped a bit and their two-game losing streak has cost them as they dropped from the number two seed down to the fifth, losing a home-court advantage come playoff time. With the Jazz and the Phoenix Suns hot the Nuggets need to find a late surge if they are to get a top-four seed. Portland has locked up their playoff berth but would like to avoid a first-round showdown with Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers. They currently have a ½ game lead over the San Antonio Spurs for the seventh spot but they’re also just two games back of the fifth spot.
