Gillian Gibbons Pardoned by Sudan President Omar al-Bashir

Gillian Gibbons, the British teacher arrested in the Sudan for allowing her children to name a teddy bear “Mohammad,” has been freed from prison after the country’s president pardoned her early Monday morning.

 

Gibbons had been sentenced to15 days in prison following the incident involving her class of 7-year-olds.

 

After Gibbons was charged with insulting Islam hundreds of Sudanese marched in the street calling for her execution. Gibbons is expected to arrive back in England today, following deportation orders from the Sudanese court.
