Rehab Clients Team Up With Elk’s Lodge To Beautify Michigan

The Adopt-A-Highway program began in 1990 and has enjoyed widespread popularity for 20 years. Last year the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) reports that the program volunteers hauled away 75,000 bags of litter. The effort of volunteers such as Narconon Freedom Center and the Elks Lodge can save government groups millions every year.

The Narconon program in Michigan is a non-profit drug prevention, education and rehabilitation organization that has been helping people in and out of the state for more than eight years. Community involvement for the betterment of the society is just one of the principles learned by students on the Narconon program. Narconon students learn that their actions do affect others and that each individual has their share of responsibility to the world at large.

One of the things clients learn while on the drug treatment program at Narconon is to "Safeguard and Improve Your Environment". Activities such as the Michigan Adopt-A-Highway program align with this basic moral.

When someone becomes addicted to drugs, street or prescription, they fall away from their responsibilities to the world around them.  As their addiction progresses, they become more and more withdrawn from life.  The Narconon program brings the person back into a state of communication with their surroundings and back into living life in a very positive sense, rather than withdrawing from it.

Programs such as Adopt-A-Highway are just one way for students of the Narconon program to reach out and give back to the community again. The drug rehab center will take part in many more activities this year to help the community and give back.
