Tiger Woods has been the victim of allegations from various women in the past couple of months. But the latest claims from a woman in his life are not what you might expect. In a 2005 interview, Woods told a story about his first major experience with racism. According to the story, "a group of sixth graders tied me to a tree, spray-painted the word 'nigger' on me, and threw rocks at me. That was my first day of school. And the teacher really didn't do much of anything." But, according to recent TMZ.com reports, Woods' kindergarten teacher Ms. Decker claims that the described event never happened. The teacher spoke out during a news conference on Friday to give her side of the story. Even before the news conference, she said, "No such incident ever occurred to Tiger Woods while he was under [my] care as a kindergarten pupil on the first day of class." During the conference, she said, "I am asking Tiger for a private and public apology to put my mind at ease and set the record straight." So is the story true or not? Considering that Tiger Woods is now 34, the contested event must have taken place several years ago, if it ever happened at all. It seems rather unlikely that any definitive proof could be offered in either direction short of something like witness testimony or video/picture proof, but in any case, the contradicting claims do not do much to help draw negative attention away from Tiger Woods, who doesn't really need more drama in his life.
Tiger Woods has been at the center of scandals for months now. This kindergarten story drama is just the latest, and arguably the least consequential, of all the problems that have been plaguing Woods since a 2009 car crash turned his life upside down. Since that November event, he has taken an indefinite leave from golf, entered therapy, and faced a number of accusations regarding his personal behavior and extra-marital affairs. But, despite having been at the center of a continuing media frenzy, Woods already announced that he will make his highly publicized and anticipated return at the 2010 Masters in Georgia. The event starts on April 8. It is likely to be one of the most watched sports events of the year.
