Legendary big- wave surfer Peter Davi died on Tuesday after losing his board surfing in an area known for its dangerous conditions. Davi was 45.
Davi had been surfing off the coast of Northern California near Pebble Beach in the waters known to surfers as Ghost Tree. According to reports Davi lost his board and attempted to swim through the swells back to the shore but was found floating around midday Tuesday by local surfers.
Not only did Davi make a name for himself around Monterey, he was known around the surfing world for his willingness to attack the biggest waves. He was on 60-70 foot waves on Tuesday when he died.
