Shuttle Launch called off by NASA

The Atlantis space shuttle launch scheduled for today was cancelled by NASA officials after a problem with fuel gauges was detected. A NASA spokesperson said the shuttle launch was called off when two of the four sensors in the craft’s liquid hydrogen tank said the tank was dry even though the tanks were filled with fuel. Three of the four sensors must be working for the shuttle to fly.

Atlantis will carry seven crew members and the space station lab Columbus. NASA officials say another launch is scheduled for Friday.

NASA says the sensors are critical to lift off as they ensure the main engines don’t shut down too early or too late.
