Vigils are being set up for the victims of the Omaha shopping mall shooting that occurred Wednesday.
Nine people were killed, including the gunman Robert Hawkins, who killed himself. Authorities are looking for the motive for why the 19-year old opened fire with a SKS rifle at a department store in Nebraska's largest mall, Westroads Mall in Omaha.
Five other people were injured. Five of the slain were female; four were male, including Hawkins.
The shootings took place inside Von Maur Inc., a closely held department store that sells apparel, shoes and related goods.
Hawkins was fired from a McDonald's restaurant three days before the shootings. In addition to losing his job, Hawkins recently broke up with his girlfriend.
Hawkins also had a March 2005 felony drug conviction and was scheduled to appear in court again later this month on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police said Hawkins left behind a suicide note that said he believed the murders would make him famous.
