Car Bombings in Baghdad Leave at least 30 Dead, Hundreds Injured

At least 30 people have died and more than 200 left injured after a series of suicide car bombings rocked the Iraqi city of Baghdad on Sunday.

The three car bombs went off within minutes of each other and were believed to be targeting foreign embassies in the country’s capital. One of the suicide bombers crashed near the Iranian embassy, blowing out windows in the area and damaging the Egyptian, Syrian and German buildings in the area as well.

A second car bomb was detonated near the offices of a pro-Iranian political figure, killing several guards and employees working for the Iraqi National Congress.

While there have been no claims of responsibility for the attacks it is believed the Islamic State in Iraq, a militant group loyal to Sunni Islamists, organized the bombings.
