Kobe Bryant Signs Extension with Lakers

NBA All-Star and Champion to Stay with Home Team.

It was reported on Friday that NBA Champion Kobe Bryant had signed a three-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal, which is worth almost $90 million, will keep Bryant with the Lakers until 2004 and will pay him more than $30 million in each of the last 2 years of the extension. Lakers coach Phil Jackson said, I expected that Kobe would sign. It’s a good choice for him and the organization.” Indeed it is. With 15 NBA Championship victories under the belt, the Lakers are the second most accomplished NBA franchise, in terms of NBA Finals wins. And Bryant, who has been playing for Los Angeles since 1996, led the Lakers to 4 of those victories. As recently as 2009, he was named the NBA Finals MVP. Bryant is also an Olympic Gold medalist, an NBA MVP, an 11-time All-NBA Team selection, and a 3-time All-Star Game MVP.
