NCAA Tournament College Basketball Championship Game: Butler Bulldogs Look to Complete Cinderella Run Against Duke Blue Devils

The NCAA tournament is down to its final game as the #5 Butler Bulldogs have battled their way to the championship game where they will face the #1 Duke Blue Devils in what promises to be a classic David versus Goliath showdown. Tip-off is set for 9:21 p.m. ET.

Butler hasn’t lost a basketball game since last December, running off 25 straight wins including five in the tournament. The Bulldogs opened their tournament with a win over UTEP and then knocked off Murray State to reach the Sweet 16. An upset of Syracuse put the Bulldogs in the Elite Eight where they knocked off Kansas State to reach the Final Four. On Saturday they beat Michigan State in a close game to reach their first national championship game.

The Bulldogs’ success has been keyed by Gordon Hayward who has been the go-to-guy late in the game but he has had plenty of help from Ronald Nored and Shelvin Mack. Duke’s defensive strategy will almost certainly focus on Hayward but they can’t sleep on the rest of the Bulldogs or they could get in trouble.

As for the Blue Devils run to the NCAA championship game the road has been a bit smoother yet they have had their doubters. Many predicted the Blue Devils would be the first #1 seed out this year yet they remain the last one standing. Led by a trio of stars, Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer, Duke can pick apart just about any team with their deadly perimeter shooting and tough defense.

Duke opened their tournament with an easy win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and then beat California to head to the Sweet 16. They then beat Purdue to reach the Elite Eight and battled their way past a tough Baylor squad to reach the Final Four where they torched West Virginia.
