Germany to ban Scientology

German officials say they are seeking to ban Scientology as they consider the organization to be in conflict with the country’s constitution. The Domestic Intelligence Agency will be assigned the task of gathering information to ban the Church of Scientology.

The organization is considered a commercial enterprise by the German government and is accused of “threatening the peaceful democratic order.” The practice has been under surveillance by the government for quite a while. Scientologists say monitoring their practices is abusing their right to freedom of religion.

The interior ministers of the nation “consider Scientology to be an organization that is not compatible with the constitution.”

Several celebrities are practicing Scientologists; the most well known being Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes. Earlier this year the German government initially refused to allow him to film his WWII movie at historical sites in the country. Officials never stated his belief in Scientology was the reason for the ban. The production was later allowed to film at the sites.

Other stars who are members of the organization are Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Lisa Marie Presley, and Pricilla Presley.
