2010 Masters News: Tiger Woods Expresses Gratitude for Reception at Augusta National

In his first true press conference since his personal life became tabloid headlines last November Tiger Woods expressed extreme gratitude for the support he has received since arriving at Augusta National for the Masters tournament later this week.

Woods said he was “blown away” by the reception he received as he was watched by nearly 500 spectators during a practice session on Monday.

The 34-year-old superstar told reporters “The galleries couldn't have been nicer. It blew me away, it really did.”

Woods had been the subject of much criticism following the revelation he had been carrying on numerous affairs while married. That criticism was bolstered after his first attempt at addressing the issue earlier this year. His explanations appeared scripted and lacking any real truth but on Monday Woods came across as much more genuine and vulnerable as he fielded questions regarding the scandal, drug use and the attitude of other players on the tour.

On that last issue Woods told reporters “I know the players have been bombarded by questions and I hope after today they can be left alone. I apologize to them for having to endure what they have over the last few months.”
