West Virginia Mine Explosion Kills 25, 4 Still Missing

An explosion at the Massey Energy Co. coal mine in West Virginia killed at least 25 miners. Four others are still missing. The explosion, which is being called the deadliest U.S. mining accident in 25 years, happened Monday afternoon. The cause is still unknown.

Rescue efforts were stopped early Tuesday morning as methane and carbon monoxide posed a  risk. Holes will be drilled 1,200 feet in to the mine to help ventilate and collect samples.

The Upper Big Branch Mine is located about 30 miles south of Charleston, West Virginia.
