Two Women Arrested after Attempting to Take Dead Relative on Flight

Two women have been arrested and charged with failing to give notification of death after attempting to board a flight at Liverpool John Lennon Airport with a dead relative.

According to reports the two women were trying to travel to Berlin when airport staff became suspicious during the check-in process. The man, 91-year-old Curt Willi Jarant, was the husband of one of the women and the step father of the other.

Both women have insisted on their innocence and have told police they thought Jarant had been sleeping when it was discovered that he was dead. The women told police he had been treated at a hospital and was released in good condition prior to them booking a flight back to his native Germany.

Police have released the women on bail until June 1. Both women are German nationals but live in Greater Manchester.
