Oprah Winfrey says Obama campaign is “very personal”

Oprah Winfrey recently announced she was supporting presidential candidate Barack Obama. Her announcement raised the question of whether celebrity support will boost politicians in their campaign. Winfrey admits her support is a personal conviction.

“This is very, very personal,” said Winfrey at her first stop with Obama in Iowa. “I’m here because of my personal conviction about Barack Obama and what I know he can do for America.”

Winfrey admits this is the first time she has ever campaigned for a presidential hopeful but assures fans and Obama supporters that she realizes the importance of what she is doing. “For the first time in my life, I feel compelled to stand up and speak out for the man who I believe has a new vision for America. I understand the difference between a book club and free refrigerators. I understand the difference between that and this critical moment in out nation’s history.”

So what is the queen of talk’s reason for supporting Obama? “I believe that Barack Obama will bring statesmanship to the White House. I believe that he will lead with strength, conviction, honor and compassion,” Winfrey said.
