At least 43 migrant workers were killed when the boat they were traveling in sank off Turkey’s Aegean coast on Saturday.
The boat, carrying 85 people, sank after experiencing trouble in rough water near the town of Seferihisar. The Turkish news agency Dogan reported 51 deaths from the accident but only 43 bodies had been recovered.
It is believed the majority of the migrants were from Iraq, Israel and Somalia and had already been on Turkish soil but were then taken to a boat off the coast to board another vessel that would have taken them to Greece where they would have looked to find their way into European Union countries for work.
