UConn Wins 78th Straight Game, Second Straight Title

Connecticut Overcomes Deficit to Get Past Stanford and Keep Streak Alive

For the first time in the past two years, the Connecticut Huskies didn’t fly by with a double figure win.  With only a twelve point first half, UConn finally was forced to struggle for a victory.  However, led by Maya Moore, the Huskies proved that they have what it takes to fight back from a deficit and still claim victory.  Moore scored 11 of UConn’s first 17 points of the second half, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds to help the Huskies edge out Stanford 53-47 Wednesday night.

Thus, Connecticut makes women’s basketball history by winning their 78th straight game and their second straight title, as well as becoming the first team to ever have two consecutive perfect seasons.  They are only ten wins shy of matching the 88-game streak set by John Wooden’s UCLA men’s team in the 70s.
