MLB Schedule Wednesday April 7: Red Sox and Yankees Wrap Up Three-Game Series, Giants Look For Sweep Against Astros
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will be wrapping up their three-game series on Wednesday with John Lackey getting his first start in a Boston uniform while Andy Pettitte will take the hill for the pinstripes. After the Red Sox took game one the Yankees bounced back and capitalized on some Boston mistakes to even the series and now Wednesday’s rubber game will give one of the clubs an early advantage in the AL East.
The San Francisco Giants will be looking to make it three straight against the Houston Astros on Wednesday and the story thus far has been San Fran’s pitching. The Giants have allowed just two runs as Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito have tossed gems and Matt Cain will look to add another when he takes the mound on Wednesday.
Nobody had a better opening day than Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals slugger will get another shot at the Cincinnati Reds pitching staff on Wednesday. Pujols had a pair of homeruns and finished his day 4-5 with 3 RBIs. The Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright out on Wednesday while the Reds will counter with Johnny Cueto.
As good a day as Pujols had on opening day the Jason Hayward probably had the most memorable as the Atlanta Braves rookie right fielder homered on his first Major League swing, sending a Carlos Zambrano offering deep into the seats. The blast gave the Braves a 6-3 advantage and they went on to pound the Chicago Cubs 16-5. Atlanta will look to make it two in a row when they put Jair Jurrjens on the mound to face Ryan Dempster.
