Ice Storms in Oklahoma, Missouri and Illinois have left thousands without power and at least 13 dead. Oklahoma declared a state of emergency as did Missouri after freezing rains and a thick coat of ice hit the area.
Oklahoma utilities said nearly 400,000 people were blacked-out after falling tree branches and ice snapped power lines. Utilities in Missouri reported over 100,000 people without power and Illinois reported around 11,000 homes blacked-out.
Oklahoma schools and airports were closed because of the dangerous road conditions and power outages. Tulsa International Airport as well as Will Rodgers World Airport in Oklahoma cancelled morning flights.
Stranded passengers who used Greyhound buses had to spend the night in church shelters because of Tulsa weather. Oklahoma Gas and Electric said there was no way to determine when electricity could be restored.
Several fatal accidents were caused by icy road conditions. Four people died in an 11 car pile up while eight others died in different accidents. At least one person died in an accident in Missouri.
