Not Getting Enough Sleep? Try Getting Soaked

Benefits Of Hydrotherapy

These days unwinding after a long day can be more difficult than ever.  One of the oldest and most effective methods around is Hydrotherapy.  Hydrotherapy is simply the use of water for the treatment of various ailments ranging from disease to muscle soreness and stress.  One of the most common at home devices for hydrotherapy is the Spa.

Heat relaxes the body by slowing down the activity of internal organs. When a person is experiencing tense muscles and anxiety from stress, a short dip in the hot spa or bath is in order.  The heat will loosen the muscles and relieve soreness to a small degree.

When the body is submerged in a spa, a kind of weightlessness is experienced. The body is no longer under the constant pull of gravity. Water also has a hydrostatic effect. It has a massage like feeling as the water gently kneads against the body. Water in motion, can stimulates the touch receptors on skin, boosting blood circulation while releasing tight muscles.

One study by the Space Medicine Laboratory in Japan submerged subjects underwater for repeated periods of weightlessness and found that much less sleep was required to become as rested as before.  The weightless nature of the environment caused for less stress on the patients and therefore less sleep was necessary to repair the body.

There is even evidence that suggests that normal spa use can help cure diseases such as insomnia and arthritis.  Hydrotherapy can rid the body of the toxins that cause the joint pain and inflammation that causes arthritis. Hydrotherapy treatments are very useful in managing chronic conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
