Matthew Murray, the 24-year-old man responsible for killing four people and wounding five others in two separate shootings on Sunday, was believed to be motivated by revenge when he launched his attacks.
It was revealed that Murray had, at one time, attended the Youth With a Mission training center but had been kicked out three years ago. Over the past few weeks he had been sending hate mail to the organization and posting comments to a website devoted to people who have left religious groups.
According to Denver’s KUSA-TV Murray’s final comments on that website were posted on Sunday and read, “I'm coming for EVERYONE soon and I WILL be armed to the @#%$ teeth and I WILL shoot to kill. ...God, I can't wait till I can kill you people. Feel no remorse, no sense of shame, I don't care if I live or die in the shoot-out. All I want to do is kill and injure as many of you ... as I can especially Christians who are to blame for most of the problems in the world.”
After killing two employees and wounding two more at the Youth With a Mission training center in Arvada, Colorado Murray headed to Colorado Springs some 65 miles away where he opened fire on worshippers at the New Life Church, killing two sisters and injuring three more before being killed by a security guard.
In a statement released by Youth With a Mission, the reasoning behind Murray’s release from the program three years prior was due to health problems but did not elaborate.
