Ryan was 13-years-old when he was diagnosed with AIDS. In December 1984 he was banned from going to school as officials feared he would spread the disease around the school. At the age of 18 he died.
In 1992 Huckabee made his comments about isolating AIDS patients. Ginder says the comments are “completely beyond comprehension” and “so alarming to me.”
When asked about his comments this past week, Huckabee insists that he still stands beside them. Huckabee said they were probably “misinterpreted.”
“I didn’t say we should quarantine,” he said. Huckabee insisted the idea was not to “lock people up.”
“I would be very willing to meet with them. I would tell them we’ve come a long way in research, in treatment,” he added.
