Today kicks off the first stop of the Shop Smart Do Good fundraising tour hosted by Lord & Taylor. Their first stop is at the Ridgewood, New Jersey Lord & Taylor this morning. Nearly a hundred organizations will be in attendance to help raise money for their cause.
Formally known as Benefit Bash, this event gives local charitable organizations a chance to raise thousands of dollars for their organizations. Last year’s participating organizations were proud to raise over $500,000.
By purchasing a $5 ticket from an organization(s) of your choice, you will also receive a 20% coupon to be used on a single item and a 15% savings pass for the day. Take an extra 10% if you use your Lord & Taylor card or 15% for opening a Lord & Taylor account. One hundred percent of ticket sales go to the organizations and there is no limit to the number of tickets each group sells.
As this event makes it way to the Chicago area on April 13th, Lord & Taylor’s Old Orchard, Oakbrook, Woodfield and Northbrook Park stores will all be hosting local charitable organizations from 9am-11pm. There will be contests throughout the day for chances to win apparel, cosmetics and even mini spa services.
One of the many organizations involved is Angie's Spa. This organization was founded in memory of Angie Levy, a vibrant woman who lost her life to breast cancer in November 2007 at the age of 36. Diagnosed at 27, Angie battled through the cancer, trying to live a normal life. An incredibly genuine and caring person, Angie was actively involved in a number of meaningful charities. Her love for life and small indulgences is what sparked the idea of Angie’s Spa.
This all volunteer organization raises money to fund hospital programs across the country to provide free therapeutic spa services to those individuals with cancer that are undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Cancer patients receive great benefits from spa services due to their ability to offer the individual great relaxation and palliative comfort. All proceeds collected by Angie’s Spa go directly towards hospital programs, so that cancer patients can indulge in something fun and enjoyable during their standard treatment process.
There has been quite a bit of research on the use of spa like treatments during a cancer patient’s treatment and healing process. Many patients have been finding success in coupling the standard treatments like chemotherapy, radiation or surgery, with complementary regimes such as massage therapy, aromatherapy or naturopathy.
What makes these treatments so powerful is that they offer relaxation and a much needed comfort for the body and mind as well as creating a peacefulness and inner balance of the body and mind. The uses of alternative treatments have shown to improve the overall quality of life and health of cancer patients.
For cancers that require extreme treatment regimes such as mesothelioma cancer, soothing spa remedies can be vital to the overall success of treatment. Because of mesothelioma’s latency of diagnosis, sometimes taking anywhere from 25-50 years to diagnosis, conventional treatment protocol is extremely wearing on the body. Complimentary treatments like massage therapy, give the patient a rejuvenating experience, providing the body with much needed healing time.
Angie’s Spa will be appearing at all Chicago locations on April 13th, Stamford, Connecticut on May 4th and Manhasset, NY on May 6th. Visit Lord & Taylor’s Shop Smart. Do Good to find an event near you. What better way to support your local charities than to come out, shop and save.
