MLB Schedule Thursday April 8: St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays Look to Complete Sweeps in Series
The MLB schedule for Thursday, April 8 will feature five games in which clubs will be looking to complete a three-game sweep. While the Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays have all taken their first two games at home the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies have managed to start the season 2-0 on the road.
The Cardinals, aided by the bat of Albert Pujols, have jumped on the Cincinnati Reds in the opening two games and could move to 3-0 when they send Brad Penny to the hill on Thursday.
Ryan Howard has the Philadelphia Phillies off to a 2-0 start and they could wrap up a sweep of the Washington Nationals on Thursday with Kyle Kendrick on the mound.
Atlanta got a go-ahead home run from Chipper Jones on Wednesday to push the Atlanta Braves past the Chicago Cubs and they’ll look for the sweep on Thursday when they send young gun Tommy Hanson out to the hill.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have grabbed the first two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers and could sweep the defending NL West champs with a win on Thursday.
Tampa Bay has won a pair of 4-3 games against the Baltimore Orioles and they’ll have a shot at a sweep on Thursday with starting pitcher Jeff Nieman on the mound.
