Mexican Inmate Dubbed “The Cannibal” Found Hanging in Cell

A Mexican inmate referred to as “the cannibal” was found hanging in his jail cell Tuesday morning after an apparent suicide.

On Oct. 8 Jose Luis Calva was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend Alejandra Galeana after police found cooked pieces of the woman’s corpse in his apartment.

Calva was quickly dubbed “the cannibal” by the media but he insisted he never ate Galeana’s remains. He claimed he seasoned and cooked the body so that he could feed it to street dogs as a means of getting rid of the evidence.

The department of corrections is still investigating how Calva was able to secure a belt and why he was left unsupervised after being placed on round-the-clock observation.
