John Edwards Being Cast As Everyday Man

In all national elections money can be a contributing factor in a candidate's position in the polls and for former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, money could prove a downfall…his own money that is. As he campaigns as a champion for the poor, he is constantly reminded by the media and the other Democratic hopefuls that he personally knows little about being poor.

His third place standing at 14 percent in national polls published at http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/, shows that he is distantly behind Hillary Clinton's 40 percent and Barack Obama's 30 percent. In the early primary states, where all three have focused a lot of their campaign dollars, he remains a distant third, especially in New Hampshire where Edwards' 10 percent lags Clinton's 30 percent and Obama's 27 percent.

While only serving as a junior senator before leaving politics, as well as an unsuccessful run at the presidency in 2004, he still has more experience than Obama in national politics. In his home state, recent poll numbers at PresidentElectionPolls.com show that 38 percent of the voters are leaning towards a Democrat candidate while 34 percent are considering the Republican ticket. This marks a shift in voter preference since March when 51 percent were looking for a Democrat presidential candidate.

Even in the early primary voting state of South Carolina, Edwards is not making much headway in his battle with the top two candidates in the national or early primary state polls. The everyday man image he is attempting to project may get lost on some voters who are aware of his personal financial health.
