Ike Turner, the famed musician and ex-husband of superstar Tina Turner, died Wednesday at his home in suburban San Diego at age 76.
Turner, known more for his abusive behavior than his musical prowess, recently won a Grammy in 2007 in the traditional blues album category for Risin' With the Blues.
Turner's abusive image became cemented when he was portrayed by Laurence Fishburne in the movie What's Love Got To Do With It, based on Tina Turner's autobiography.
Turner, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is credited by many rock historians with making the first rock 'n' roll record, Rocket 88, in 1951.
Ike and Tina Turner were married in 1962 and got divorced in 1978. The two had two sons together.
According to Ike, he was married more than 20 times, but public records say he was married four times.
The cause of death has not been determined yet.
