Grammy Award Winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ike Turner Dead at 76

One of music’s most controversial figures, Ike Turner, died at his California home on Wednesday at the age of 76.

Despite spending years trying to clean up his image and kick a drug habit that fueled his violent relationship with then wife Tina Turner, Ike was never able to fully rid himself of the stigma.

Many rock historians credit Turner for creating the first rock and roll album “Rocket 88” in 1951 and his influence carried over to stars ranging from the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton to several artists in Hip Hop and Rap.

More than half a century after Turner recorded “Rocket 88” his band, Kings of Rhythm, were presented with a Grammy for his 2007 album “Risin’ With the Blues.”
