Iranian President Says Country Has Centrifuges to Enrich Uranium at Greater Speed

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said his country now has centrifuges that will enrich uranium at a much greater speed than their current technology, once again putting Iran at the center of sanction talks among members of the UN Security Council.

Iran has insisted that their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only yet several Western nations have expressed doubt over those claims. With the new centrifuges unveiled on Friday Iran would be able to shorten the time it would take to build a nuclear bomb, something not lost on the UN.

The Security Council was already meeting to discuss new sanctions against Iran for its refusal to halt its uranium enrichment program. As it stands China has been the one voice that has consistently opposed new sanctions but they have been feeling the pressure from other members and could relent with news of the new centrifuges.
