The latest recall is a great cause for concern for most parents as they are being told drug maker Merck has issued a recall for millions of doses of a children’s vaccine. The vaccine is called Hib and given to children under five to protect against meningitis and pneumonia.
Merck issued the recall after concern for contamination in a Pennsylvania manufacturing plant. The company says they have not found any contamination yet. There have been no reports of a child with symptoms but parents are being urged to look out for a rash or bumps near where their child was injected.
The Centers for Disease Control says the Hib recall is only a precaution. All doctors are being instructed to return their supplies of the vaccine. No other vaccines were recalled.
