Kuwait Deports Followers of Egyptian Opposition Figure Mohamed ElBaradei

Kuwait has deported nearly two dozen followers of Egyptian opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei after the group reportedly assembled without permission and criticized Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak.

ElBaradei is a polarizing figure in Egypt and could become a key challenger to Mubarak’s long-standing leadership, a position he has held for almost three decades.

ElBaradei is a former chief of the International Atomic Energy Association and in 2005 he, along with the IAEA, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. While he has not declared his intentions to run for the presidency ElBaradei has been endorsed by several opposition groups who believe he could lead Egypt into a more democratic age.
