Interview with Director Laura Henry
Bringing The Crucible Back
LA.CityZine.com sat down with Director Laura Henry, of The Crucible production currently running at the Matrix Theater in Los Angeles, and asked her questions ranging from what political relevance The Crucible holds in todays media, to the affects of the WGA strike on Los Angeles.
Originally written as social commentary of the McCarthyism era, Henry has adapted the play with great accuracy to discuss our current political situation with Iraq. Henry talks about how this play holds a mirror up to the past and helps us remember where we have been, to better understand our current social climate.
Henry also talks about what is like directing Theater in Los Angeles, from scheduling conflicts, to traffic, to the effects the WGA strike is having on productions.
