Royal Children’s Hospital expected to be Australia’s newest landmark

Construction on the $1 billion project for Victoria’s Royal Children Hospital began today and is expected to finish in 2011.

With a large section for various restaurants and a mini supermarket and a 90-room hotel and gym will all be located within the hospital.  Its definitely clear that  the plans have been designed to greatly benefit both patients and their guests.

Daniel Andrews, the health minister boasts that the hospital’s percentage of singles rooms, 85%, will outnumber any of Australia’s public hospitals.

There are also plans for a park, and yes, even environmental factors have been considered.  With the implementation of new green features, green house gases are expected to drop 45% in comparison to other hospitals.  An estimated 20% decline of water usage is also expected and with the use of a water treatment plant on site, additional water will be available for the park.
