Time Magazine “Person of the Year” Goes to Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin was named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” on Wednesday, acknowledging his “extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability.”

Putin is nearing the end of his second and final term as Russian president, and has already said he would accept the role of prime minister if Dmitry Medvedev won the presidential election to be held March 2.

The 55-year-old leader remains incredibly popular within Russia and has been credited with instilling stability, economic growth and national pride since succeeding Boris Yeltsin in 1999.
