Home Owners and Business Enjoy Benefits of LED Decorative Lighting Year Round

The recent improvement of LED technology and improvement in general supply has lead homeowners and business owners to expand their use of the energy-efficient lighting.  LED Christmas lights were widely available this year and were the subject of overwhelming consumer demand and media attention.  Many homeowners and businesses are now finding many uses for LED decorative lighting beyond the holiday season.

“People have used Christmas lights, rope light, and other forms of decorative lighting for applications outside of the holiday season for many years,” said Timothy Hill of HolidayLEDs.com.  “But incandescent lighting is expensive to operate, creates a lot of heat and doesn’t last very long so it never has been a very desirable solution for long-term decorative lighting,” Hill added.  Energy efficient LED technology has changed all that.  LEDs typically use about 90% less energy than their incandescent counterparts and last up to 20 times as long.  “For example, a 1 foot stand of LED rope light consumes about .47 watts of power while a comparable incandescent strand consumes 7.5 watts,” Hill explained.  That is a substantial difference over the course of a year.  “Not only does the LED decorative lighting consume less energy it will last a long time which lowers maintenance and replacement costs,” added Hill.

LED rope light is becoming very popular for permanent home and business accent and decorative lighting.  LED rope light typically comes in round or square strands with approximately 12 LEDs per foot and is available in a wide variety of colors.  The LEDs are encased in a flexible and moisture-proof clear plastic that allows for easy installation around decks, bars, coves, building outlines, and similar locations.  “You can really use the LED rope light almost anywhere and it’s entirely weather resistant,” Hill explained.

“We are also finding that many of our customers are buying Christmas lights for permanent installation in their yards for general landscape lighting,” said Hill.  The efficient LED string lights use so little power a homeowner could illuminate 2,000 lights for 8 hours each day for an entire year and only spend about $47 on electricity.  “With such low operating costs and bulb longevity there simply isn’t any reason to not use them all year,” Hill concluded.
