Lake County Indiana authorities have arrested David Bowen for the 1979 murder of 8-year-old Kenneth Conrick. Nearly 28 years after the murder, investigators re-tested evidence and got a positive match of Bowen’s DNA on the child’s cloths.
Bowen, 44, is currently living in Maine. He had been a suspect in Conrick’s murder for 28 years, but could never be tied to the case. Bowen was 16-years-old at the time he tortured and murdered Conrick. The boy’s decomposed body was found naked and tied to a tree.
“This was a case in which we needed the modern technology to help us prove what we believed. I hope [Kenneth] knows that we never gave up on him,” said Sheriff Rogelio Dominguez.
Lake County police say DNA re-analysis has lead to developments in two other cold cases.
